Don’t Take Life So Seriously

Don’t Take Life So Seriously

Everyone takes themselves and their personal drama way, way too seriously sometimes. So what if someone insulted you? So what if you’ve tried so hard to accomplish something, but when it counted, you failed?

Think about all the petty stuff you pour your energy into every day. Things like gossip, arguments or when someone lets you down. Or getting angry at the _ _ _ _ that just cut you off on the highway. All of those things make you angry for a reason that you’ll probably forget about a week from now. In short: THEY ALL DON’T MATTER. If they don’t matter, why do you care so much about them? Learn to let go, have a short memory, laugh at your emotions and move on.

It’s a fundamental truth that life is not really a serious business – it’s more like a game, a game of existence and the reason why there is nothing serious about it is because everything is “temporary”. Of course, one needs to have a relative seriousness, it doesn’t make sense of having a grin on your face when the other person is crying away, but it’s important to not be lost in seriousness because it defeats the underlying principle of the game which is to “play” – even computer games are played in all seriousness, but it’s still a relative seriousness where one knows it’s a game. Of course, it’s not about making light of someone’s suffering by calling it a game, “sensitivity” is part of our being and it’s part of the experience of this play of life, even with the understanding, of the absolute perspective, that everything is temporary.

Basically, the attitude of “what happens is for the best” is most aligned with the truth of life. It’s far too frustrating to get too particular about a life, and thus waste your energy in frustration instead of enjoying the reality that’s unfolding for you – ultimately “experience” is all there is, and your attitude decides the experience that you have of life, irrespective of the expressions that unfolds in and around you.

If you feel stuck in your life, where your “desires” don’t seem to be manifesting the way your mind wants them, you may want to stop struggling so much and realize that it’s not all in your “control”. The issue could well be that you “feel” stuck because of the way you are thinking about your reality rather than the reality itself – it’s very possible that the reality you are living is the best fit reality for you at this moment and it’s affording the required growth that you intended. If you are worried about your negative thinking, and are concerned that it will attract negative realities for you, just relax and realize that your human mind is not the only force at play, a much stronger force is the force of your life-stream which will play out the events that allow your well-being and growth. Of course, it’s always a good option to relax your human-mind by no longer giving its thinking so much importance, this way you can reduce any real resistance to your life-force.

The bottom-line is to let go of the attitude of “rigid thinking”. It’s not about total surrender and it’s not about total control, it’s in-between, it’s a mix of both. The irony is that even the attitude of total surrender is a form of control, where you are controlling your natural instinct to want some control, your natural instinct to be “deliberate” (or at-least the sense of deliberation). You can see how your body is a mix of control and surrender, there are some things about your body that you can control (consciously, now and then) and some things you have no real control over. If your body was totally out of your control it would be a pretty boring (or scary) journey, the possibility of deliberation is what adds to the spice of this journey. On the other hand, if your life was totally your responsibility, based on your “human” thinking alone, then it would be a huge burden to handle as a person (it’s similar to how you would feel if you had to consciously breathe all the time to survive, it’s a good thing that it happens on its own through the body’s intelligence). A mix of deliberation (free-will) and automation (destiny) is what allows for an optimal experience, and that’s what life’s intelligence has created as a reality for existence – now that’s something to be very appreciative about.

BUT, there are some things in life that should be taken seriously, like your values, relationships, work and the things you love. Those things deserve all your energy and dedication, and you should focus on them because they’re what matters in life to you. If things go wrong there, the comedy of errors theory works — to a point. Obviously, if you get laid off from your job or when others rejects your proposal, you’re not going to be smiling and saying to yourself,“Alamak” (Oh dear) what a comedy of errors life is! You’re going to be hurt. And that’s okay, because, in order to experience life to the fullest, we have to experience a full range of emotions.

We can always choose our attitude to whatever happens. If we want to make a big deal of things, lament and suffer from unmet expectations, that’s just fine. Or we could just accept whatever is and choose HOW to go on from there. When you screw up, sure, you can laugh at yourself on one condition: THAT YOU TRY AGAIN!
